A Candy Lunch

In Tokyo last summer (right near Tokyo station) we passed a restaurant which seemed to be hosting an interesting event. A number of people were lined up, eagerly awaiting entry to whatever was going on inside. We soon discovered that in the rear of the restaurant, they were hosting a candy lunch. You can see one the "meals" above. There were 3 or 4 options to choose from with various entrees, mains, and desserts. Of course, it was all just candy, but the presentation was fun, and the place was really nice, as you can see below.

Ummmm... Time for some sarcasm. You don't think:
1) we passed a restaurant?
2) we went into said restaurant?
3) they were serving candy?
4) there were 3 or 4 options?
5) the place was nice?

;)

Not a fun idea?

Everytime I looked at those candies, I thought of how they didnt appeal to me as food, thought of oishii Japanese foods, thought of my hunger and appetite being very disappointed if these were the choices...then wrote.."I don't think so"!
I was going to write .."those weird and wonderful Japanese" but I think I keep writing/saying that about too many things that are both kawaii and kowai that they like to do..kapeesh?

I think this was just a promotional event. It was very interesting but also very odd. There were workers dressed as chefs, whose sole job was to unwrap candies, put them on a tray, and write descriptions. I wonder how much training they required for that?

I remember how hungry I was then and we had to wait for a long time as workers were carefully unwrapping the candies! I thought at first we had to pay for "the meal" but it was free!
I didn't feel like I was having a course meal. But they were all candy to me!
We did take out the leftovers and enjoyed them later.
Do you remember the workers were Russian and the person at the door spoke English to us?

I forgot about the blond waitresses who wouldn't talk to us in English.

After this fake meal, we had some delicious Hawaiian burgers upstairs in the Shin-Maru-Biru. The beer cups there were taller than me!

Hawaiian burgers?!? Take me, take me!
